Chestnut House offers attractive, comfortable bedrooms for up to 19 people in large single rooms, many with en-suite facilities and all with a call bell system and TV point. A passenger lift gives access to the first-floor rooms. There are many communal areas, including three lounges including a large dining area. We have well-maintained gardens and we are currently establishing a sensory garden.
Chestnut House has full wheelchair access from all rooms to the communal areas, for those whose mobility is limited. Assisted bathing and other amenities make mobility as safe and convenient as possible for you. Pressure reducing mattresses, seat cushions and high backed chairs provide extra safety and comfort where required.
All our staff are trained in the use of specialist equipment and receive regular refreshers on any changes in current usage and/or legislation, affecting the use of equipment. All our equipment is regularly serviced by outside professionals.
You may wish to continue with your own doctor, or if necessary we will help find a local doctor for you. With the help of your GP, a tailor-made care plan will be drawn up to help us understand and provide for all your needs.
We offer a range of activities to suit your mobility, from music and movement, to walks in the grounds, or even a spot of gardening; our residents are encouraged to pursue their own hobbies. Our activities coordinator is constantly looking for new and interesting things to entertain you.
We are always keen to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and all other festivities. We offer regular musical entertainment and we are always looking out for new live entertainment. In the summer, when the weather is fine, afternoon tea is served in the garden. We also hold regular BBQs and fetes, where we raise money for charities and the residents’ fund.
A full laundry service, within the care home, is included in our fees. Dry cleaning services can be arranged at extra cost. We are happy to arrange for visiting healthcare professionals such as opticians and dentists, as well as hairdressers and so forth.
For safety reasons, visitors are required to sign in and out of the Visitor’s Book. The home is protected by a fire alarm system, which is regularly inspected, backed up by robust Fire Safety and Health & Safety policies. The doors are security coded and alarmed. There is an extensive and secure garden, equipped with tables, chairs, benches and umbrellas (in the summer) for you and your relatives, friends or advocates to enjoy.
We understand food plays a major part in older people’s lives, therefore we offer home cooked food prepared by our own catering team and we are careful to take special dietary needs into account. Our menu is always under review and we are happy to take on board any comments our residents or their visitors may have concerning the menu. We keep a careful eye on nutrition, so our meals are balanced as well as being delicious. There is always a choice at mealtimes and snacks and beverages are readily available. We have a rotating menu which is regularly reviewed and changes are made according to our residents’ wishes. Our catering staff are always happy to accommodate personal choices which are not on the menu.
